Bathroom Organization Ideas: 7 Tips to Make the Most of Your Space

Bathroom organization and cleanliness is a universal goal. However, it’s often easier said than done — especially if there are multiple people living in your household.

In an effort to make this process easier, we have some bathroom organization tips that will help you make the most of your space. Read on to learn more.

Easy ways to master bathroom organization

1. Start by decluttering.

Like many organizational tip posts, this one starts with decluttering. Decluttering is the best way to help ensure that items that you no longer use aren’t taking up valuable space. With that in mind, begin this process by going through your drawers or cabinets and getting rid of anything that you no longer need.

As a rule of thumb, if you haven’t used it in the last six months or longer, you’re probably not going to need it in the future. The one exception to this rule is any health or first aid items that might be good to keep on hand for a rainy day.

2. Invest in drawer dividers and storage containers.

After you’ve cleaned out your drawers and cabinets, the next step is to invest in a few organizational tools. In this case, you don’t necessarily have to throw down a lot of cash to purchase name-brand organizers. You just have to find a few storage containers. Ideally, they should fit well in your drawers or cabinets so that they don’t take up valuable counter space.

However, the one thing that we do recommend investing in is drawer dividers. As the name suggests, these tools are used to divide up the usable space within your drawers in order to give all the items that go in the drawers a dedicated spot. Once every item in your bathroom has a place, you’ll be shocked at how easy it is to keep things organized.

3. Consider adding a bar cart (yes, this IS for bathroom organization).

If you’re running short on space and you need more storage, adding a bar cart to your bathroom may be a good option. While it may seem strange to bring this item into the bathroom, there’s a reason why we suggest it. Namely, choosing wheeled storage will give you the option to move it around as needed.

That said, if you’re thinking of going this route, take your organization to the next level by making sure to get organizers for every item that goes on the cart, too.

In fact, in this case, you could consider giving every member of your family their own bathroom caddy and keeping them stored on the cart. That way, it’s easy for everyone to just grab and go on busy days.

4. Use trays to tame your counters.

In an ideal bathroom organization scenario, there should be very few items left on your countertops. However, not everyone has that luxury. With that in mind, if you are short on space and you need to keep items on your counters, do your best to keep them organized using trays.

Put simply, trays can be used to unify loose items like makeup or hair supplies. Again, they serve their purpose by making sure that every item in your bathroom has its own defined space. As an added bonus, they also make it easier to move those items when it’s time to give the bathroom a good scrub down.

5. Add vertical storage for better bathroom organization.

When space is at a premium in your bathroom, it can be a good idea to add more storage to the mix. However, if you don’t have room for any more storage on your floor, think vertically. Adding shelves to the bathroom walls or getting an over-the-toilet medicine cabinet can be a great use of space.

Here, your best bet is to go with closed storage. While open shelving may look trendy, in practice, they are very hard to keep organized. Closed shelving will give you the option to hide items away from view if things start to get a little disorganized.

6. Label everything.

Once you have all of your storage in place, take the time to label everything. It may seem like labeling is something that they only do on Pinterest, but it can be a really crucial step in helping you stay organized long-term.

When you can see with a glance where everything belongs, you are more likely to keep things neat going forward. All it takes is a label maker and a little patience.

7. Repeat as needed.

Truthfully, the secret to bathroom organization is making a commitment to it. Once you’ve put all these pieces in place, follow up on your hard work by making an effort to update them regularly. Don’t be afraid to clean things out on a regular basis or to adjust your organizational products as needed.
