Yep, it’s that time of year again: tax season.

Confused about what is due and when for your federal taxes? Here are the dates and forms you’ll need to file quarterly installment payments, monthly payments if you work for tips, and the deadlines for filing your yearly tax returns. We’ve also added tax deadlines for U.S. citizens or resident aliens living and working — or on military duty — outside the United States and Puerto Rico.

If you purchased a home or refinanced a mortgage last year and have questions about filing your 2018 taxes, be sure to speak with your accountant or tax professional. Quarterly Tax Installment Deadlines For 2019

Form: Use IRS Form 1040-ES (Estimated Tax for Individuals)

    Q1 2019

    Due: January 15, 2019

This is the final date for 2018 estimated tax payments. Note that you shouldn’t have to make this particular payment if you file your 2018 income tax return and pay any tax due by January 31, 2019. Filing your return and paying any tax due by this date should prevent penalties for late payment of the last installment.

    Q2 2019

    Due: April 15, 2019

First installment estimated tax payment for 2019.

    Q3 2019

Second installment estimated tax payment for 2019.

    Q4 2019

    Due: October 15, 2019

Third installment estimated tax payment for 2019.

Employees Who Work for Tips: Tax Deadlines for 2019

If you received $20 or more in tips during the previous month, you are supposed to report them to your employer.

Form: Report your tips with IRS Form 4070 (Employee’s Report of Tips to Employer)

Due: Employees must report tips to their employer by the 10th of the month after the month the tips are received. With those rules in mind, your 2019 due dates are as follows:

April 17, 2019: Individual tax return deadline for filing your 2018 income tax return if you live in Maine or Massachusetts.

June 17, 2019: Federal income tax return is due for U.S. citizens or resident aliens living and working — or on military duty — outside the United States and Puerto Rico.

Extension Request: Use IRS Form 4868 if you need more time to file your tax return; you can usually get a 4-month extension.
